Estuary Lodge Takes Home the Traveling Gavel

The the annual Blue Lodge Council Table Lodge, put on by the Philosophic Lodge of Research, Estuary Lodge has the most attendees and took home the coveted Traveling Gavel.

gavelHere Anchor Lodge Worshipful Master Joe Bonola, reluctantly, turns over the Traveling Gavel to Estuary's Worshipful Master Sam Walker. Anchor Lodge had won the gavel for most of 2011, but the tide seems to have turned.

Past Grand Master Certified – Finally

The certification of an incoming Worshipful Master requires him to demonstrate his proficiency in opening, closing, receiving dignitaries, and going from refreshment to labor and back.

Some Past Masters don’t see the necessity, but Most Worshipful Samuel B. Walker, Past Grand Master, and Master-elect of Estuary Lodge No. 43, Old Saybrook, didn’t see any problem. His examination by District Deputy Carl J. Mossberg was unique. His ease with the ritual led Grand Senior Warden Simon R. LaPlace to witness, “He shouldn’t get a 99. He was a 100!”

Estuary Lodge is sure to have an exciting and educational year with MW Sam leading it. He last sat in the East of then Siloam Lodge No. 32 in 1972, forty years ago, and has a year planned to increase membership awareness, fellowship, and fun. His installation as Worshipful Master is scheduled for Wednesday, January 4, 2012.

There may be an outrageous pun here and there from this 85 year old jewel.

Sam_Certified_smallMW Sam Walker enjoys receiving his proficiency certificate from RW Carl Mossberg. Current Estuary Lodge Master Jeff Flynn, left rear, and acting Chaplain RW Mike Shear have a laugh.

MW Sam was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut in 1995. He is the only living recipient of the Pierpont Edwards Medal in Silver for Eminent Masonic Service from the Grand Lodge of Connecticut. MW Sam is also a Fellow of the Philalethes Society and Past President of that esteemed Masonic research association.

Welcome to Our Lodge
Estuary_gable_endWelcome to Estuary Lodge No. 43's website.

As Connecticut Freemasons we embrace the tenets of Friendship, Morality and Brotherly Love. We do this by using the teachings of Freemasonry to better ourselves, our community and each other. At our lodge we make Masons and here at our website we show you our history, activities and schedule of future events.

The Masonic Fraternity does not invite anyone to become a member, instead we wait patiently for the special man to knock on our door and seek admittance. Perhaps your visit here is that "knock" on our outer door.

Feel free to browse our site; investigate us and Freemasonry! See for yourself what we are doing here. We hope this site interests you into becoming a better man and joining the greatest and largest Fraternity in the world.

Connecticut Freemasons: making a difference, here and around the world.
